You may have heard the name ‘Red Words’ around here and there recently so let me make it official!

Recently a new promotion was founded and it is called RED WORDS!

Red Words is a new production company made up of Ruthanne Edward and myself.

Red Words will be our umbrella organization that we use for any of our various artistic endeavours. This will have no bearing on the Capital Slam shows which are still put on by the Capital Poetry Collective. (I am the Slam Master for Capital Slam and Ruthanne is the Volunteer Coordinator.)

The first official Red Words production is the Once Upon A Slam series, that just had its first Grand Champion(s) crowned!

Once Upon A Slam is Ottawa’s first Story Slam that started as a Ruthanne Edward production (with support from Ottawa Story Tellers) and is now a full Red Words Production! Ruthanne is the Slam Master, booker, show co-ordinator, sometime host and generally the brains behind the operation. I help her out where needed and provide the ambiance as I pretend to be an actual DJ, while also operating as scorekeeper.

Expect to see more Red Words projects in the coming months… including a foray into publishing!

So I have some ideas for poems that I want to write but I have been SWAMPED lately with other things… many of them AWESOME other things.

Two weeks back there was Chasing Boudicca at the NAC.

This show was EXCELLENT! Ruthanne Edward, Kate Hunt, Nathan Bishop and Marie Bilodeau performed in excellent blend of story, poetry, music and story (respectively).

Then there was Cipher Slam… where I did what I think was the best performance of Tricks that I have ever done.

This last Friday was Once Upon A Slam, featuring Brendan McLeod. Great show with their biggest crowd ever! We stretched the limits of the Mercury Underground. I was DJ and I got some specific compliments for my mix of ‘hipster’ music. 🙂

A lot of great stuff, but I still haven’t written those poems…
